# Legal and Regulatory Notices
The Political Risk Insurance site is operated as the editorial and lead-generation platform of an independent specialty insurance practice. Submissions made through the site are routed to a licensed insurance producer who works with admitted carriers, surplus lines markets, and wholesale brokers to place specialty marine and political risk coverage on behalf of clients. The legal sections below describe how submitter data is handled, the terms under which the site may be used, and the producer licensing framework governing the placement of coverage.
1. Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains what information is collected through this site, how that information is used, how long it is retained, and what rights submitters have over their data.
Information We Collect
We collect information that submitters voluntarily provide through quote request forms, newsletter signups, contact forms, and direct communication. The categories of information collected include:
- Identifying information — name, business or entity name where applicable, role or title
- Contact information — email address, telephone number, mailing address where relevant
- Risk-specific information — for a marine quote request, vessel particulars (name, flag, IMO number, hull value, tonnage, intended trading area); for a yacht quote request, vessel particulars and intended cruising area; for a cargo or trade credit quote, shipment particulars, counterparty details, and trade routes; for an executive K&R or travel risk quote, the number and roles of insureds and destination countries
- Communication content — the body of any message submitted, including attachments
We do not knowingly collect information from minors. The site is intended for use by commercial insurance buyers, yacht owners and managers, corporate risk managers, and counsel.
Cookies and Analytics
The site may use cookies and similar technologies for the limited purposes of session management, security, and aggregate usage analytics. Where applicable, a cookie banner provides notice and the ability to decline non-essential cookies. We do not use cookies to build cross-site behavioral profiles of identifiable individuals.
How We Use the Information
Information submitted through the site is used for the following purposes only:
- Underwriting submission and quote preparation — vessel, business, or risk information is shared with the carriers, wholesale brokers, and underwriters whose participation is necessary to obtain quotes responsive to the submission
- Communication with the submitter — to respond to inquiries, request additional information needed for underwriting, deliver quote indications, and process binding instructions
- Newsletter delivery — for subscribers who have opted in, to deliver the weekly Monday Brief and occasional related editorial announcements
- Regulatory recordkeeping — to maintain records of insurance transactions and producer activity as required by applicable insurance law
Sharing with Third Parties
Information is shared only with the parties necessary to perform the requested service. Specifically:
- Carriers and wholesale brokers — receive the information needed to evaluate the risk and issue a quote
- Vendors providing operational infrastructure — email delivery, form processing, customer relationship management, and document storage; these vendors are bound by confidentiality and data protection terms
- Regulators and auditors — where disclosure is required by law, subpoena, or insurance regulatory inquiry
We do not sell submitter information. We do not share submitter information with third-party marketers, list brokers, or aggregators. Newsletter subscribers' email addresses are not licensed or sold to any third party.
Data Retention
Quote submission data is retained for the duration of the producer-client relationship and for the period required by applicable insurance recordkeeping law thereafter. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until the subscriber unsubscribes, at which point the email address is removed from active mailing lists and retained only in suppression records to honor the unsubscribe request.
Submitter Rights
Depending on the submitter's jurisdiction, applicable law may grant the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data. Submitters located in the European Union or United Kingdom have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation. Submitters located in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and other US states with consumer privacy statutes have additional rights under those statutes. Requests to exercise these rights may be submitted to the privacy contact below.
Security
We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect submitter information. No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is fully secure, and we do not warrant absolute security.

2. Terms of Use
By accessing this site, the user agrees to the following terms. If the user does not agree, the user should not use the site.
Informational Nature of the Site
This site is published for informational and educational purposes. Content on this site — including pillar pages, news articles, FAQs, and resource summaries — describes the structure of specialty insurance products, market conditions, and regulatory frameworks. Nothing on this site constitutes insurance advice, a recommendation to purchase or decline any specific coverage, a binder of insurance, a commitment to insure, or an offer of insurance to any specific person.
Coverage decisions are made by carriers based on individual risk underwriting. Quote indications shared in writing or verbally are subject to underwriting acceptance, completion of an application, payment of premium, and the specific terms and conditions of the issued policy. Until a policy has been bound in writing by a carrier with binding authority, no coverage is in place.
Accuracy
The site is updated periodically and content is dated where applicable. Market conditions, regulatory rules, JWC Listed Areas, premium rates, and underwriter appetite change continuously. Information published on a given date may not reflect current market conditions. Users should not rely on dated content as a current statement of market conditions or coverage availability.
No Legal, Tax, or Investment Advice
Nothing on this site constitutes legal advice, tax advice, accounting advice, or investment advice. Insurance is one component of a broader risk management program, and the appropriate structuring of coverage often interacts with corporate, tax, and contractual considerations that fall outside the scope of an insurance producer's role. Readers should consult qualified counsel, tax advisors, and corporate advisors for advice specific to their situation.

Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the site operator disclaims liability for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of the use of, or inability to use, this site. The site is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the law of without regard to its conflicts-of-laws provisions. Any dispute arising out of the use of this site shall be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction in that state.
3. Insurance Producer License Disclosure
Insurance services described on this site are provided by a licensed property and casualty insurance producer.
Insurance products are offered only in the states in which the producer is licensed. Submitters located in states where the producer is not licensed will be referred to a properly licensed producer or will be advised that coverage cannot be placed.
4. Surplus Lines Disclosure
Certain specialty insurance products described on this site — including most marine war risk, hull war, cargo war, political violence, and political risk coverages — are placed in the surplus lines (non-admitted) market. The following disclosures apply.
What surplus lines insurance is. Surplus lines insurance is insurance written by carriers that are not admitted to do business in the state where the coverage is placed. Surplus lines carriers are not subject to the same rate and form filing requirements as admitted carriers, and policies are generally not protected by state guaranty associations in the event of carrier insolvency.
Eligibility for surplus lines placement. Coverage is placed in the surplus lines market only when the risk cannot be placed with an admitted carrier on acceptable terms. Eligibility requirements vary by state and may include a "diligent effort" requirement to seek coverage from admitted carriers first, or designation of the risk as "industrial insured" or "exempt commercial purchaser" status.
Surplus lines taxes and fees. Premiums for surplus lines coverage are subject to surplus lines premium taxes and, in some states, additional stamping office fees. These are itemized on the policy and are the responsibility of the insured.
Surplus lines broker license. The placement of surplus lines coverage requires a separately-issued surplus lines broker license in each state where business is transacted on a surplus lines basis.
No guaranty fund protection. Coverage placed in the surplus lines market is not backed by the insurance guaranty fund of the placing state. In the event of carrier insolvency, the insured's claims are subject to the carrier's liquidation proceedings and there is no state-level backstop. Surplus lines carriers are vetted for financial strength (typically by reference to A.M. Best or similar ratings) before placement.
5. Wholesale Broker Disclosure
Marine war risk, political violence, and political risk placements are commonly routed through wholesale brokers who maintain direct access to the Lloyd's of London market and to specialty US and international carriers. The retail producer who originates the submission works in partnership with the wholesale broker to place the coverage.
The producer may receive commission from the wholesale broker or carrier on placed business. Where commission arrangements differ from standard market practice — including where fee-based engagements are used in lieu of commission — the structure will be disclosed to the client at the time of engagement.
6. No Legal or Tax Advice
The site operator is an insurance producer, not a law firm or tax advisor. Discussions of regulatory frameworks, sanctions, recordkeeping requirements, and tax treatment of insurance premiums or recoveries are provided for informational context only and do not constitute legal or tax advice. Readers are urged to consult qualified counsel or tax professionals for advice specific to their circumstances.
